Racing Shadows is James's debut novel, a book that took many miles and years to complete. The protagonist, Jeff Dillon has faced several recent set backs including the1984 Olympic Marathon Trials in Buffalo, New York. A chance meetig with Bill Atlee, a 1920's Olympian will change his fortunes and set in place his comeback race at the Baltimore Marathon the following fall. There are questions to be answered, and redemption sought by both athlete and coach, the race providing a second chance to compete, to strive for the podium, and face everything that lies beyond the finish.
